June Meeting (June 2) - Annual Balloon Liftoff and Potluck

Our June 2 meeting will be our Annual Balloon Liftoff and Potluck. This is a beautiful event where we write letters to our children, siblings, and grandchildren who have passed away, and send them up to the sky on balloons.

This event is held at the same church where our regular meetings are at, but in the main dining hall instead. This will be the first building you see if you park in the north parking lot.

You may bring a poem or story to read to the group.

Friends and family are welcome at this event. Please bring a dish to share with everyone (and a dessert if you are able to).

Torrance Memorial Home Health & Hospice Bereavement Services

Grief is the normal response people have to the experience of loss. It is natural and universal, but also stressful. Torrance Memorial’s Bereavement Services are provided by professionals, as well as professionally-trained volunteers. We assist those who are grieving the death of a loved one and help the caregivers, family members and friends of a terminally-ill person. To help families through these difficult times, Torrance Memorial offers a variety of bereavement support groups. Each of these groups is facilitated by our Bereavement Coordinator. These groups are offered to hospice families as well as to the community-at-large.

Personal Consultations and Counseling

It is often helpful to sit down with someone and talk about your situation and the unique aspects of you bereavement. Our Bereavement Coordinator is available to provide personal consultations and/or counseling or to provide referrals for any further assistance that might be appropriate to your situation. Drop-In Groups

These groups are available on Monday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in Torrance Memorial’s Health Conference Center, 3330 Lomita Blvd., Torrance, CA. Reservations are not necessary. For additional information, call (310)784-3751 or (310)466-3509.

Bereavement Support Groups

Throughout the year, periodic eight-week bereavement support groups are facilitated by our Bereavement Coordinator. Reservations are required and more information can be obtained by calling 310-784-3751.

The Compassionate Friends Credo

We need not walk alone. We are The Compassionate Friends.

We reach out to each other with love, with understanding and with hope.

Our children we mourn have died at all ages and from many different causes, but our love for them unites us.

Your pain becomes my pain just as your hope becomes my hope.

We come together from all walks of life, from many different circumstances.

We are a unique family because we represent many races and creeds, and relationships.

We are young, and we are old.

Some of us are far along in our grief, but others still feel a grief so fresh and so intensely painful that they feel helpless and see no hope.

Some of us have found our faith to be a source of strength, while some of us are struggling to find answers.

Some of us are angry, filled with guilt or in deep depression, while others radiate an inner peace.

But whatever pain we bring to this gathering of The Compassionate Friends, it is pain we will share, just as we share with each other our love for the children who have died.

We are all seeking and struggling to build a future for ourselves, but we are committed to building a future together.

We reach out to each other in love to share the pain as well as the joy, share the anger as well as the peace, share the faith as well as the doubts, and help each other to grieve as well as to grow.

WE NEED NOT WALK ALONE. WE ARE THE COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS.
